Rep. Barry Loudermilk (GA-11) has expressed his support for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This comes after a thorough investigation conducted by the House Homeland Security Committee, which found that Mayorkas had knowingly and systematically failed to comply with federal immigration laws and breached the public trust.

In a statement, Loudermilk stated, "The primary role of the Secretary of Homeland Security is to ensure the security of our homeland. Effective control of our borders is critical to the safety and security of Americans. Secretary Mayorkas has failed to secure the border and has violated his oath of office."

Loudermilk further criticized Mayorkas for subverting the laws of the United States and instructing his subordinates to do the same. He argued that Mayorkas' actions have led to unprecedented national security and humanitarian crises at the southern border.

One of the key issues highlighted by Loudermilk is Mayorkas' refusal to reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy, despite being ordered to do so by a federal judge. Loudermilk accused Mayorkas of misleading Congress by testifying that the southern border was "secure and fully operational," when he knew it was not.

Loudermilk emphasized the consequences of Mayorkas' behavior, stating, "His reckless behavior and open-border policies have endangered our communities, empowered drug cartels, and undercut efforts to combat illegal immigration."

Although Loudermilk acknowledged that he does not take the power of impeachment lightly, he believes that Mayorkas' intentional subversion of the law and his ordering of subordinates to violate the law meet the Constitutional criteria of misdemeanors. He emphasized the importance of Congress providing oversight and accountability to the executive branch.

Loudermilk concluded, "My vote to impeach Mr. Mayorkas is about ensuring that those who defy their oath of office and violate the public trust are held to the highest degree of accountability. When one branch of government deliberately subverts the lawful authority of the other two, it’s a major affront to our Constitution and warrants impeachment."

The impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas passed the House by a narrow vote of 214 to 213. This decision reflects the concerns raised by Loudermilk and others about Mayorkas' actions and their impact on national security and immigration enforcement.

The impeachment vote serves as a clear message that the House of Representatives is committed to upholding the principles of the Constitution and holding public officials accountable for their actions. The outcome of this impeachment process will have significant implications for the future of the Department of Homeland Security and its role in ensuring the safety and security of the United States.
