Advocates for Children, a nonprofit organization serving 11 counties in Northwest Georgia, has launched its Back-to-School initiative aimed at supporting foster youth. The initiative seeks to provide necessary resources such as backpacks, school supplies, new clothing, and shoes to foster children and youth. This effort is particularly focused on assisting teens and young adults residing at Newman House, an emergency and transitional home.

Rachel Castillo, President and CEO of Advocates for Children, highlighted the importance of donations by stating, “Donating isn’t just about school supplies. It’s about giving youth the confidence to walk into school prepared, proud, and believing in themselves.”

With back-to-school shopping costs expected to exceed $600 per child this year, Advocates for Children is reaching out to community members for support. The organization serves over 15,000 children and families annually. Many of these individuals arrive with only the clothes on their backs.

To facilitate donations, Advocates for Children offers several options including an Amazon Wish List for school supplies, gift cards allowing teens to choose their own clothing, and monetary gifts that address urgent needs throughout the year.

For those interested in contributing or learning more about the initiative, further information can be found on their website or social media channels.

Advocates for Children operates with support from individual donors, corporate sponsors, churches, civic organizations, government grants, private grants, and volunteers. Their programs are designed to aid in preventing childhood abuse and neglect while supporting families facing various challenges.
