The Atlanta Falcons have completed an interview with Mike Disner for the newly created president of football position. The move comes after Owner and Chairman Arthur M. Blank announced the formation of this role on January 5 as part of an organizational restructuring.

“The leader in this new role will set the vision and identity for our team,” Blank wrote in a letter to fans. “Our new head coach and general manager will report to the new president of football, and they will work collaboratively as a football leadership team on all football decisions. Final decision-making authority will rest with the president of football.”

Disner is currently serving as chief operating officer for the Detroit Lions, a role he has held since 2022. He has worked with several NFL organizations over two decades, including time as senior vice president of football and business administration for the Lions, director of football administration for the Arizona Cardinals, and positions within the NFL Management Council.

While at the Lions, Disner was involved in hiring general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell, helping connect business strategy with football operations. According to the Detroit Lions’ official website, Disner “assumes responsibilities across both the football and business management teams, overseeing the organization’s football operations and football administration, as well as leading the Lions’ strategy and revenue teams.”

The expectations outlined by Blank for Atlanta’s new position closely match Disner’s current responsibilities: acting as a liaison between coaching staff, management, and ownership while aligning business and football operations. The Falcons note that updates on interviews for this position will be provided through their official site.

The Atlanta Falcons are based in Atlanta, Georgia, compete in the National Football League’s NFC South Division, began play as an expansion franchise in 1965, and have appeared in two Super Bowls (1998 and 2016). Their mascot is Freddie the Falcon (official website).

The Lions stated that Disner’s leadership “has helped establish a supportive and efficient working relationship between the football and business operations that has led to more creative opportunities to enhance the Lions’ brand.”
