Convoy of Hope, a humanitarian relief organization, is expanding its disaster response capacity in the Southeast by opening a new 125,000-square-foot Regional Distribution Center East in Emerson, Georgia. The facility will be officially dedicated on Thursday, August 28, with a public ceremony featuring Convoy of Hope leadership, guest speakers, and partner organizations.
The new center is fully stocked with emergency supplies including shelf-stable food, water, paper goods, cleaning supplies, and hygiene items. It also houses a fleet of relief vehicles ready for deployment during disasters such as hurricanes and strong storms. The Southeast region is considered especially vulnerable to hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding.
The regional distribution center aims to improve economic efficiency by pre-positioning supplies close to areas likely to be affected by disasters. This approach helps reduce transportation costs and logistical challenges during emergencies when supply networks are often strained. Local partnerships with communities and churches help maintain reliable supply chains for essential items. Employing local team members also allows the organization to better address regional needs and logistical considerations.
Convoy of Hope has responded to more than 800 disasters worldwide since 1996. Its Disaster Services team is recognized for rapid response using several strategically located warehouses and a specialized fleet. In the past year alone, Convoy of Hope has provided aid after events such as deadly flooding in Texas, wildfires in California, and Hurricane Helene.
“During times of natural and humanitarian disaster, Convoy of Hope responds with tangible aid and compassion. Not only does it distribute essential emergency supplies such as food, clean water, hygiene kits and more — but it also provides long-term assistance, when possible, to help people rebuild and recover,” according to the organization.
Convoy of Hope partners with local churches, businesses, civic groups, and government agencies to serve vulnerable communities in over 130 countries since its founding in 1994. The group reports having served 300 million people through feeding initiatives, community outreach programs, and disaster response efforts.
The dedication event will take place at 460 Joe Frank Harris Parkway SE in Emerson at 10 a.m., with preregistration encouraged for those wishing to attend.
