The Atlanta Falcons hosted their rookie minicamp at their facility in Flowery Branch, Georgia. Head coach Raheem Morris noted that Friday’s practice was the only on-field session, with Saturday reserved for conditioning and lifting.
Over 40 players attended, including first-round picks Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr., as well as undrafted free agents like Cobee Bryant and Nick Nash. The practice focused on individual reps and 7-on-7 work.
Morris expressed enthusiasm about seeing the new players in action: “Pretty excited to get these guys out there, move around a little bit,” he said. He emphasized the importance of tryout players, stating, “The tryout guys are the guys where I really have my eyes focused at.”
Among the undrafted free agents, cornerback Cobee Bryant stood out. Known for his competitive nature, Morris was pleased to have him on board: “That was something that was really exciting for me because I had a real clear vision for him,” he said.
James Pearce Jr., another notable player from the draft, showcased his skills during pass rush drills. When asked about his strategy on third-and-long plays, Pearce confidently replied, “I set up everything off speed… I’m going to win, though. For sure.”
Jalon Walker also worked with edge rushers throughout the practice. The Falcons plan to start him at edge rusher before transitioning him to a hybrid linebacker role.
Defensive tackle tryouts included Kevin Hester Jr. and Marlon Taylor. Though neither had standout college careers, they could provide depth to the roster.
Wide receiver Nick Nash impressed with his athleticism and instinct during catches. Tight end Joshua Simon also caught attention for his strong frame and ball-handling skills.
Makai Polk, already part of the Falcons’ roster after signing a reserve/futures deal in January, shone during practice with notable catches. His performance added to the competition among receivers.
Morris emphasized the potential impact of rookies this season: “Make no mistake about it,” he stated, “we are going to have some real intentionality about playing our rookies this season.”
