Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) has announced the winners of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Georgia’s 11th Congressional District. The first place was awarded to Alberto Garcia Melchor for his piece titled “Vanishing Stripes.” Melchor is a student at Gordon Central High School.
Rep. Loudermilk expressed his enthusiasm for the annual event: “The Congressional Art Competition is something I look forward to each year because I get to see the incredible artistic abilities of the students in our district. Having your artwork displayed in the halls of the U.S. Capitol is a great honor, and I look forward to seeing our winner’s artwork every time I walk through the Cannon tunnel to the House floor for votes. I appreciate all the students, teachers, judges, and parents who had a hand in making this year’s art competition one of the best ever.”
This year, twenty-four entries were submitted from ten schools within the district. The second place was awarded to Erick Jaramillo from Calhoun High School for his piece “Que’ dijo?” Erick Jaramillo’s art teacher is Kate Johnson.
Two students received honorable mentions. Luca Camay from Walton High School for the piece “Flathead Catfish,” under guidance from teacher Kathleen Petka, and Liberty Carson from a Homeschool Study Program for “Lady Liberty,” taught by Jennifer Tinsley.
The competition highlights the artistic talents of students in Georgia’s 11th Congressional District and provides the winners with the opportunity to have their artwork recognized at a national level.
