Washington, D.C. (March 22, 2024) - U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk, along with U.S. Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, have initiated an inquiry with USPS Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to address alleged fraud at the Marietta Post Office. The lawmakers expressed their concerns about the incidents that occurred at the Marietta Post Office, including mail theft, forgery, document fraud, and check-washing.
In a letter to Postmaster General DeJoy, the lawmakers stated, “Reports of missing tax returns and pension checks are troubling, as many of our Georgia constituents rely on these checks for living expenses.” They are demanding answers regarding the incidents at the Marietta Post Office, the full extent of the alleged crimes, the status of the investigation by the Office of the Inspector General, communication with victims, resources available to victims, and steps towards restitution for the victims.
Rep. Loudermilk emphasized the importance of ensuring secure access to mail for all Georgians, stating, “My office is working diligently to ensure these matters are quickly resolved.” The lawmakers are seeking transparency from USPS to address concerns related to alleged mail theft and delays in the state.
The inquiry by Rep. Loudermilk and Sens. Ossoff and Warnock underscores the need for accountability and resolution in response to the reported incidents at the Marietta Post Office.
