FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Atlanta Falcons entered the 2024 offseason with a clear objective: securing a quarterback. They succeeded by acquiring Kirk Cousins, a four-time Pro Bowler who was performing well last year before sustaining a season-ending injury.

Cousins is considered an upgrade at the position compared to what the Falcons have had over the past two seasons. He joins a team filled with young playmakers and returning starters on the offensive line. While there are some uncertainties surrounding Atlanta's offense, it has the potential to become one of the NFL's surprise units.

Tori McElhaney emphasized that "a quarterback is only as good as his pass catchers," suggesting that Cousins' impact will be seen in the early performances of Drake London and Kyle Pitts. Both players were high draft picks for their ability to create mismatches on the field. McElhaney pointed out that consistent quarterback play could significantly boost their numbers.

Will McFadden addressed concerns about Cousins' recovery from his Achilles tendon injury, noting that he participated fully in OTAs and minicamp. Historically, Cousins has performed well at the start of seasons, averaging strong statistics in his first four games as a starter. McFadden believes Cousins' presence will be felt early due to his ability to utilize multiple offensive weapons effectively.

Terrin Waack highlighted consistency as a crucial factor for the Falcons, who have struggled with stability at quarterback since trading Matt Ryan in 2021. Waack noted that prior to his injury last season, Cousins had missed only two games since 2015, indicating reliability which has been lacking for Atlanta.

Amna Subhan focused on Cousins' experience and veteran leadership as key assets for the Falcons' young group of pass catchers. She mentioned that Cousins has already been building rapport with teammates during the offseason through film sessions and other activities. Subhan expects this experience to translate into greater stability and confidence for the team during late-game situations.
