The Atlanta Falcons executed a series of roster changes following their joint practices and preseason game with the Miami Dolphins.
Outside linebacker Bralen Trice and cornerback Harrison Hand were placed on the reserve/injured list. Quarterback Nathan Rourke was released, while wide receiver Jakeem Grant, running back Spencer Brown, and quarterback John Paddock were signed.
Both Trice and Hand sustained injuries during their time in Florida. Trice exited the first preseason game last Friday with a knee injury. The third-round draft pick had been gaining significant playing time with both the first- and second-team defenses during training camp. He was listed as the backup outside linebacker on the Falcons' initial depth chart.
Hand left practice early last Wednesday after an injury occurred during 11-on-11 drills. Atlanta confirmed that he also injured his knee. Hand, a 2020 fifth-round draft pick, signed with the Falcons on June 11 and was listed as the third cornerback on the depth chart.
Their placement on injured reserve means Trice and Hand will miss the entire 2024 season.
Rourke, who joined the Falcons on Aug. 1, was released after making his NFL debut in Friday's game. He completed three of his 13 pass attempts for 37 yards and scrambled twice for 24 yards.
Grant brings six years of NFL experience to the team but has not played since 2021 due to injuries. During his career, he has made notable contributions both offensively and on special teams. His signing follows wide receiver Rondale Moore being placed on injured reserve last Thursday.
Paddock returns to Atlanta after being released earlier this month. Brown appeared in six games over two seasons with the Carolina Panthers but did not play in 2023.
