The Atlanta Falcons are set to conclude a three-game division stretch against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. As the 2024 NFL season reaches its quarter mark, the Falcons have shown significant offensive growth over their first five games.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins has been pivotal in this progression, as he aims for the team to peak by the end of the year. "It's also vital to win games early to set up that late-season run," Cousins noted. The Falcons' offense has improved weekly, highlighted by a 550-yard performance against Tampa Bay, marking their highest single-game yardage since 2020.

Four key statistics illustrate Atlanta's offensive growth: total yards, scoring rate, down-set conversion rate, and expected points added (EPA) per play. The team advanced from 29th to 10th in total yards per game and climbed from 29th to 11th in scoring rate. Their down-set conversion rate improved from 23rd to 12th, while their EPA per play rose from -0.25 to a league-best performance in Week 5.

Cousins' steady improvement has been crucial for Atlanta's success. He ranks fifth in passing yards and EPA per dropback entering Week 6. His effectiveness is particularly notable when operating from a clean pocket, leading the league with eight touchdowns without an interception under such conditions.

Drake London has benefited significantly from Cousins' growing comfort level. In Week 5 against Tampa Bay, London achieved career highs across several metrics and appears poised for a breakout season.

Defensively, Atlanta ranks first in limiting opponent plays of over 20 yards and second in air yards per attempt allowed. Jessie Bates has made a substantial impact since joining the team last year, earning praise from Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Lake: "He somehow always finds the football."

Despite these strengths, Atlanta's pass rush remains an area for improvement with only five sacks recorded so far this season. Lake emphasized that improving on early downs is essential for enhancing their pass rush capabilities.

As they prepare for Sunday's matchup against Carolina, both the Falcons' offense and defense aim to maintain their momentum through consistent performances.
