Pickens County Education: 37 Black students were enrolled in 2022-23 school year

There were 37 Black students enrolled in Pickens County school in the 2022-23 school year, 23.3% more than the previous year, according to reports from the Georgia Department of Education.

Data showed that Pickens County welcomed 3,933 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Black students comprised less than 0.1% of the student body to be the fourth most represented ethnicity in the county.

Among the six schools in Pickens County, Pickens County High School recorded the highest enrollment of Black students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 11 students.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:15, which is better than the national average of 1:16. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
