From the moment Tyler Allgeier joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, he has been a reliable and consistent player for the team. Despite changes in quarterbacks and the addition of Bijan Robinson, a top-10 draft pick, Allgeier has consistently contributed to making Atlanta one of the most dynamic rushing teams in the league.
Allgeier set a new franchise record for rushing yards by a rookie running back during his first season. Although Robinson is now the featured back, Allgeier’s role remains significant due to his physicality and reliability. He has missed only one game in three seasons and has never fumbled since entering the NFL.
As Allgeier’s rookie contract nears its end after the 2025 season, both he and the Falcons face important decisions about his future with the team. The market for running backs like Allgeier is expected to be strong, thanks to players such as Saquon Barkley, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Robinson increasing their valuation.
Falcons’ coaches are focused on maximizing Allgeier’s potential this season. “Ultimately, as we look at this season coming up, my goal is to make sure that he continues to improve upon the things that I think he needs to improve upon,” said running backs coach Michael Pitre. He added that Allgeier is highly competitive with his own goals and aspirations.
The partnership between Allgeier and Robinson is vital for Atlanta’s strategy. Former Falcon Michael Vick praised their dynamic: “Oh man… Tyler gonna do the dirty work. Bijan gonna just be dynamic.”
Allgeier’s role provides two benefits: enhancing physicality in their run game while reducing Robinson’s workload. “When you have another guy like Tyler in the room… we’re still going to get very high production,” Pitre explained.
The longevity of players like Allgeier contributes significantly throughout long seasons. Whether or not his career with Atlanta extends beyond next season remains uncertain. However, what he’s provided so far marks him as a Day 3 success story.
“It’s getting that collaborative mindset of how do we make sure we maximize him and his ability,” Pitre stated regarding focusing on current performance while leaving future decisions open-ended.
