Piedmont Mountainside Hospital issued the following announcement on July 26.
Joyce Rodgers worked for the Henry County Health Department for many years before retiring and then serving on the Piedmont Henry Hospital Board of Directors. She has been a longtime supporter of the hospital in addition to her duties on the board. After serving three, four-year terms, Rodgers was honored by the board with establishing the scholarship fund in her name. On Thursday, July 22, Rodgers and hospital leaders honored the inaugural class of recipients.
“It takes more than doctors and nurses to deliver good hospital care,” said Rodgers at the ceremony. “I’m pleased that we can help people do what they want to do in healthcare and I’m honored to present these scholarships to these deserving individuals.”
The scholarship recipients are:
- Gleanne Jaynes, a nurse at Piedmont Henry pursuing a degree in nursing at Gordon State College
- Alyssa Thompson, a patient care technician at Piedmont Henry pursuing a degree in nursing at Truett-McConell University
- Angela Yi, a former allied health student pursuing a career in healthcare at Georgia State University
- Austin Reid, a recent high school graduate pursuing a career in physical therapy at Auburn University
- Tammy Miller, a wife and mother pursuing a degree in nursing at Southern Crescent Technical College
Scholarship selections were based on scholastic record, character, leadership qualities, participation in student and community activities, and interest and knowledge of chosen health career. Applications for the scholarship will open again next spring. To donate to the Joyce Rodgers scholarship fund visit give.piedmont.org/Henry and select Joyce Rodgers scholarship fund from the menu.
