Chamber of Commerce Launches Remote Reader Initiative

Genbusiness005

Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on August 11.

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee is launching a new program just in time for back-to-school.  The specifics of the Remote Reader program were developed by Chamber Intern, Ashlyn Carroll, a 2021 Cherokee High School graduate.

The inspiration for the Remote Reader program was two-fold.  “First it was obvious, due to COVID-19, that opportunities to volunteer in our area schools were decreased this past year due to safety protocols.  The Chamber staff also felt Remote Reader could assist teachers and parents by providing them with an online library of recordings to capture students’ attention, fill a few minutes of class time, etc.,” shared Chamber President & CEO Pam Carnes.

“While there are already YouTube videos of children’s books being read aloud, the Chamber’s Remote Reader initiative provides local children a chance to hear from local people. The students can then connect their favorite stories with the represented businesses or organizations, which leads to stronger community pride,” remarked the Chamber’s 2021 Chairman of the Board Adam Smith, Commercial Banker and Senior VP with Synovus.

For Smith, his son and daughter will be excellent resources when determining just the right book to read.   How will other Chamber volunteers go about making their selections?  “Representatives of Chamber member businesses and organizations are encouraged to take a walk down memory lane in choosing a book they would like to share, or they can contact the Chamber for suggestions from Ashlyn’s list,” added Carnes.  For further details on the Remote Reader program, contact the Chamber at 770-345-0400 or Meagan@CherokeeChamber.com.

The mission of the Cherokee County Chamber, a Georgia Certified Chamber of Commerce, is to promote business and the community while expanding the economy and enhancing the quality of life.
