KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Watch, listen and learn --and become better empowered over your own health. This is a FREE event presented by: Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, Emory Winship Cancer Institute, JScreen/Emory University and Hadassah Medical Organization, in collaboration with Hadassah Greater Atlanta.

This important, informative online program, open to the community, features an impressive lineup of experts from some of the top hospitals in the country and the Hadassah Medical Organization. It will also feature personal stories from a Previvor (someone with a family history who has not been diagnosed with cancer), a Survivor and a Thriver. Whether you're interested in reducing your personal risk of cancer, are supporting a loved one who has been diagnosed, or are grappling with a diagnosis yourself, this seminar is for YOU!

Continuing Education Units are approved for 1.5 CEU’s from the Hadassah National Center Nurses Councils, a provider approved by the Florida Board of Nursing for 1.5 Contact Hours.

Moderator/MC: Melissa Stern, Journalist/Communications Director, Survivor. Melissa serves on the board for a local nonprofit, “Team Maggie’s Dream,” which helps provide financial assistance for fertility preservation to young adults about to undergo cancer treatments.

Nurse Navigator: Emily Beard RN, OCN, Program Coordinator, Northside Hospital Cancer Institute. Emily’s professional titles “nurse “and “program coordinator” at Northside Hospital Cancer Institute in Atlanta, GA, don’t tell the full story of her deeply personal connection to the experience of breast cancer. She is first and foremost “daughter,” “sister” and “friend” to many patients and fellow caregivers affected by this disease.

AWARENESS – Risk assessment and overview of genetic testing: Emily Goldberg, MS, CGC, Cancer Genetic Counselor, JScreen at Emory University. She also serves as an Instructor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and adjunct faculty at Sarah Lawrence College where she teaches embryology and reproductive genetics.

RESEARCH - How research leads to treatment and better outcomes: Dr. Shani Paluch-Shimon, MBBS, MSc, Director, Breast Oncology, Sharett Institute of Oncology, Hadassah University Hospital, Israel. Her key areas of clinical interest and research are breast cancer in young women, BRCA-associated breast cancer, triple-negative breast cancer and neo-adjuvant therapies.

TREATMENT – How genetic risk can impact treatment decisions: Dr. Jane Meisel, Associate Professor of Medical Oncology, Glenn Family Breast Center, Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University. Dr. Meisel has a special interest in women's health and in cancers that affect women, including breast, cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancers.

The ART of Resilience – Coping with the emotions and uncertainty of cancer: Nikeisha Whatley-León, LPC, Director, Northside Hospital Behavioral Health Services. Nikeisha’ s focus over the past few years has been implementing a Psych-Oncology Service line for Northside Hospital’s Cancer Institute and the affiliated practices state-wide.
