City of Canton Winter Weather Briefing and Preparation

435

City of Canton recently issued the following announcement.

Inclement winter weather is expected to hit the North GA area, including Cherokee County, late Saturday evening and continue through Monday. Today, City Department Leaders, held a Winter Weather Preparedness meeting with City Manager, Billy Peppers, to discuss the City's plan to meet the demands of the looming winter weather.

The discussion included an After Action brief in reference to what they had learned from previous year’s winter storms which will greatly assist the response to any impending weather the City may face this year.  The leadership team discussed emergency operations plans, staffing, plowing of major roadways, salting, staging areas for material, and readiness of equipment.  In addition, they also talked about incident documentation and enhanced ways on how to keep citizens informed about the effects of the winter weather on the community.

City Manager Billy Peppers stated, “While winter weather events are never normal or routine in our area, Team Canton is putting all of our resources into play to meet the needs of our community.”

The City of Canton's Public Works team began on Friday to prepare for the predicted ice and snow by spreading salt brine on every major thoroughfare hill and bridge in the City. They will have teams on call this weekend to assist County Fire and   Canton Police Department with any emergencies for clearing roads on major routes through the City. Any weather-related updates for the City of Canton, including trees down, power outages, and extended weather advisories, will be communicated on the City's social media outlets.

Stay safe, stay inside, and stay warm!
