Pickens County Education: Fewer students enrolled in Pickens County School District in 2022-23 school year

The only school district in Pickens County faced declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 3,933 students in the halls of Pickens County School District, 0.7% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Pickens County was steady compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were male, and 49% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 89% of the Pickens County School District's total enrollment.

Pickens County School District has a main office in Jasper and is the only school district within Pickens County.

According to the Georgia Department of Education, over 1.6 million students were enrolled in Georgia's public schools during the 2021-22 school year. The state boasted a diverse and closely distributed student body across grade levels, with roughly 44% of the students in elementary, 24.5% in middle school, and 31.5% in high schools.

The state also registered an ethnically diverse student body, with 34.4% of the students identified as white, 36.5% as Black, 17.1% as Hispanic, and 4.5% as Asian.
