Rep. Barry Loudermilk and the Georgia Republican Congressional Delegation have sent a letter to the newly appointed Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Doug Collins, expressing concerns over the VA's performance in Georgia under the Biden Administration. The delegation has urged Secretary Collins to visit Georgia's VA facilities to understand the reforms needed.
The lawmakers pointed out issues with service quality for Georgia veterans over recent years, stating, "We write to you today, frustrated with the quality of service to Georgia veterans during the previous administration." They accused past leaders of neglecting appeals for improvements and actively resisting positive changes. The delegation invited Secretary Collins to visit key VA centers like the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center. They pledged cooperation in removing barriers that prevent veterans from receiving adequate care: "We stand ready to work with you to rectify this past refusal to improve service."
Rep. Loudermilk emphasized, "Our nation’s brave veterans put their lives on the line... they deserve the highest quality of care this country can provide." He called for accountability and urged Secretary Collins to act swiftly.
Rep. Austin Scott voiced confidence in Secretary Collins' ability: “Our veterans deserve the best, and I trust Secretary Collins..."
Rep. Buddy Carter expressed eagerness for Secretary Collins' leadership: “Following... horrendous VA policy in Georgia... I look forward to hosting Secretary Collins.”
Rep. Andrew Clyde criticized past policies but showed optimism about future improvements under Secretary Collins: “The Biden-Harris Administration woefully failed our veterans... I’m confident that VA Secretary Collins is equipped..."
Rep. Mike Collins highlighted challenges faced by veterans due to policy restrictions: “It’s no secret that the Biden administration purposely restricted community care options..."
