Cartersville Middle School recently issued the following announcement.
Despite the unprecedented challenges experienced during the 2020-21 school year, Cartersville Middle School students outperformed state and local Regional Education Service Agency (RESA) averages on the Georgia Milestones assessments administered in the spring. The percentage of students scoring in the Proficient & Above category ranked higher in every grade level for Math and English Language Arts content areas.
Principal Matt Gibson attributed the success to several factors. He said, “Teachers at Cartersville Middle School invest a tremendous amount of time and dedication to ensuring our students are not only prepared but are also excelling and actively engaged in the learning process. Through collaborative teams, we identify and focus on essential standards to give our students the opportunity to build a base of knowledge that will lead to success across multiple content areas and deepen their skills. Finally, our students exhibited an impressive level of perseverance and flexibility last year. I am proud of the work we accomplished and look forward to expanding the growth and success of our students.”
Designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state-adopted standards in core content areas, the state assessments revealed the effective teaching and learning occurring at CMS.
6th-Grade Math:
15 percentage points higher than the RESA average and 16 percentage points higher than the state
7th-Grade Math:
12 percentage points higher than the RESA average and 13 percentage points higher than the state average
8th-Grade Math:
14.5 percentage points higher than the RESA average and 16.5 percentage points higher than the state average
6th-Grade ELA:
5 percentage points higher than the RESA average and 6 percentage points higher than the state average
7th-Grade ELA:
9 percentage points higher than the RESA average and 8 percentage points higher than the state average
8th-Grade ELA:
12.5 percentage points higher than the RESA and state average
