The only school in Cherokee County faced declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 611 students in the halls of Cherokee Charter Academy, 8% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Cherokee County was steady compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52% of them were male, and 48% were female.

The most represented ethnicity among Cherokee Charter Academy students was white, accounting for 48% of student population.

Cherokee Charter Academy has a main office in Canton and is the only school within Cherokee County.

While enrollment in Georgia inches closer to pre-pandemic levels, chronic absenteeism remains a serious challenge. In 2023, a significant portion of students (23%) missed 10% or more of their classes. Although this is slightly better than the peak of 25% in 2022, it's still nearly double the pre-pandemic rate of 13% recorded in 2019.
