CCSD Students Advance to Young Authors State Competition

Kids

Cherokee High School recently issued the following announcement.

Cherokee County School District students are advancing to the state level of the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition!

The annual writing contest is open to students in grades kindergarten through 12 and provides an opportunity for schools to encourage writing in a variety of genres.  Each CCSD school submits a top entry for each grade level to compete at the district level.  District first-place winners then advance to regional competition for the opportunity to compete statewide.

The seven CCSD students who won first-place in the regional competition and have advanced to state are: first-grader Ayana Dorleans, Hickory Flat ES; sixth-grader Ellie Cosgrove, Woodstock MS; seventh-grader Alena Nelson, Dean Rusk MS; eighth-grader Keelin Murray, Woodstock MS; ninth-grader Emalee Bennett, Sequoyah HS; sophomore Makenzie Bird, Cherokee HS; and junior Ava Riney, Etowah HS.

“Writing is a critically important skill for all of our students to master for future success,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “We’re so proud of our district and regional winners for demonstrating excellence in writing and creativity, and we’re grateful to their teachers for outstanding service.  Congratulations to all and best wishes to our students in the state competition!”

Kindergarten: Austin Naghavi, Little River ES, “Pethrs”

Grade 2: Jovi Doud, Liberty ES, “The Christmas Miracle”
