Washington, D.C. (April 20, 2024) - Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia's 11th District has expressed his views following the passage of a national security supplemental package by the House of Representatives. Speaking on the legislation that was voted on in four separate bills, Rep. Loudermilk commended Speaker Johnson for allowing individual amendments and votes on each bill.
"I appreciate Speaker Johnson breaking down the national security supplemental legislation into four individual bills that allow for members of the House of Representatives to offer amendments on the floor and vote their conscience on each one individually," said Rep. Loudermilk.
While acknowledging the importance of supporting allies and U.S. interests, Rep. Loudermilk emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in such support. He stated, "I believe in supporting our allies and U.S. interests where freedom and individual liberties are threatened; however, I believe the support must be measured, accounted for, and fully transparent."
Highlighting the critical nature of the legislation in the current geopolitical climate, Rep. Loudermilk underscored the importance of providing necessary support to the U.S. military and allies for the nation's security and prosperity. "As with most pieces of legislation, none of these are perfect, but we live in very dangerous times, and it is important that we provide the U.S. military and our allies the support they need to ensure our nation remains free, safe, and full of opportunity," he stated.
The legislation includes provisions for various regions and purposes, such as the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, the Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, and the 21st Century Peace Through Strength Act.
Rep. Loudermilk voted YES on the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, which provides substantial support to Israel for defense purposes against Iran and its proxies, as well as humanitarian aid and protection for non-profit institutions.
Additionally, he voted YES on the Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, aimed at countering communist China and enhancing deterrence in the region.
In contrast, Rep. Loudermilk voted NO on the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, which sought to address the conflict in Ukraine and support regional partners countering Russia.
The 21st Century Peace Through Strength Act, which implements sanctions and policies to counter Iran, China, and Russia, also received Rep. Loudermilk's YES vote.
The legislation reflects a strategic approach to bolstering national security and addressing global challenges, as articulated through Rep. Loudermilk's statements and voting record in the House of Representatives.
